Named after Cumbria's famous sheep breed, Herdwick Cottage was the original Granary when the farm was built in the 17th Century. It has been converted into the cosiest of our four cottages and has a definite 'sheepy' theme. We allow guests to bring up to two dogs when staying in Herdwick Cottage.
Upstairs
This consists of a double room with king-size bed and an adjoining bathroom that has a bath and overhead electric shower.
Here you can relax in the lounge area or prepare your meals in the kitchen diner with its breakfast bar.
The couple who manage the cottages give you a very warm and friendly welcome. They are happy to advise on good walks nearby and places to eat. The two pub and bakery recommendations that we were able to visit were both superb (and within walking distance from Gamblesby). I had the smallest cottage, Herdwick, which is very cosy and has everything you need for a self catering holiday. My friends had the largest cottage, the Barn, which has a spacious open plan kitchen and lounge with a lovely view of the fell behind. Gamblesby is a beautiful little village and a great base to explore the stunning countryside surrounding it.

"When we arrived, we couldn't believe how beautifully quiet it was. Walking to the village shop in Melmerby was stunning - especially in the sunshine. Thanks you very much. Loved it."
